Progress | Week 6

I'm pretty happy with how my posters worked out this week, If I were to change something, I think I would work on perfecting the balance of colors and boldness of the type, and I would make the knife look a bit better.

Regarding the booklet, the image above is a quick example of the idea I have. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to change the gradient color for each booklet slightly. The paper I bought for the sun and the title has a very subtle glitter in it, and I think that would be a nice effect to include.

I could also have various designs like above, with different colors. The two top sun designs—which are very rough designs above—I'm not sold on but I think if I do some brainstorming and tweaking, I think I could come up with a good concept.

Since the books I'm selecting aren't available through Gutenberg, I'll either have to type them up myself or find them through a different online resource. Tomorrow I'll be typing them up on a free day when I'm not on campus, and then when I have extra time on campus I'll be cranking out those booklets.

For the title, I think doing a laser cut or something that's precise would be good to cut it out of paper. I decided not to just leave those spaces empty on the paper below the surface as negative space because I wanted more dimension.

I've been thinking about my resume, and I think I'd like to think of some sort of design/logo-like thing for my name. I don't want something that screams that it's a logo, but just a piece of type that when they look at it, they know it's me, even something as simple as a larger J in a special font and color.

Ending | Week 7/8

It has been interesting to work on the three booklets and the resume. At first, it was all very overwhelming to have four different documents to work on. Then, I started to work on my booklets and used my resume as sort of a break. Once I figured out the sizing for the margins, the page sizes, and the text, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I did buy some paper at the Anchor Express paper shop, but I made the mistake of bringing it home and not having a big enough cutter there, but I still wanted to have some other dimension besides a flat piece of paper. The print shop previously specified that they needed a maximum of 48 hours to have a project completed, so I submitted mine last night and it will be done at 4:00 today. I'm going to bring it home and use the kind of sparkly card-stock paper I purchased and cut out the circle part from the sun and have that be an almost 3-D element. I selected the circular part of the sun to only be cut out since it's ...

In the Process | Week 4

Magazine Remake Working on the magazine spread remake was very interesting. To start it off, I couldn't figure out the scanner at first, I had to do a handful of photoshop, and I didn't have the exact font I needed. With the photoshop, I had accidentally scanned my spread with one of the top corners of a page was folded over and I did my best to edit it out. Regardless of obstacles, I am still proud of what I did. I selected the spread based off of the colors and the overall aesthetic feel of it. Original Spread Spread Remake  It was a process to figure out the correct spacing between lines, letters, words, etc. I ended up using four layers in the remake of the spread: original scan, a photoshopped version of the scan, photos and other icons (such as arrows and stars), and text. The one thing I would change, if I were to select the biggest issue, it would be the corner of the page that was accidentally turned over when I had scanned it. For a first try at photos...

Posters and Books | Week 5

The creative process has been very interesting when it comes to the design of the posters. I've gone back and forth about different ideas that could all work, but I've selected the one that I wouldn't just enjoy the most but the one that could use text best to design the poster and describe the concept in the best way. Topic: I've chosen the TV show 'Psych'. It's a contemporary detective show where this guy pretends to be psychic (he's just observant) to keep a job at the police department. I've decided to use the show's font (American Typewriter Bold). I couldn't find the exact one, but I did find American Typewriter Bold 2, and it looks pretty identical to me. The TV show's color is green, so I think I could use green, black, and white. Poster #1 This one will focus on the main character and include some of his quotes and things that are important. I'll create a pineapple (there's one in every episode, or almost ever...
